Copacabana is the launch point — a small pilgrimage town on the Bolivian shore. From there a slow boat goes to Isla del Sol, the island the Incas believed their sun god was born on.
On the island there are no cars and barely any roads. You walk the spine ridge in a day with the lake on both sides, sleep in a small guesthouse, and wake up to the most absurd lake-and-Andes panorama you've ever had with a coffee.
the vibe
Calm, religious, slow. Trout for lunch on the malecón, fishermen in wooden boats, and a sunset over the lake from Cerro Calvario that locals climb every Sunday. Bring a warm jacket — the lake sits at 3,800 m.
